The Manchester Evening News is reporting that vandals have caused more than £10,000 of damage and burnt a log cabin to the ground at a Levenshulme Primary School…
Yobs broke into the grounds of St Mary’s RC Primary School, on Clare Road, and torched a log cabin – containing outdoor equipment worth thousands of pounds – over the bank holiday weekend.
As well as completely destroying the cabin, which was only installed a year ago, the fire also ruined all the equipment stored inside.
The school has lost all its gardening equipment, litter pickers and waterproof clothing, which allowed the children to play and learn outside in all weathers.
Staff say the equipment, which was donated as a gift last year, through Manchester City Council’s environmental initiative Clean City, was not insured.
Instead, they are having to rely on donations of equipment from parents and supporters to replace the destroyed items…
Headteacher Mylene McGuire said: “We are really upset about what has happened. We’re absolutely gutted.
“All they did was burn the cabin, nothing else. They knew what they were doing…”
Too much of this happening.
What makes schools such a popular target? Is it some kind of anger-by-association at an institution people perhaps didn’t enjoy having to go to?
