Teacher assaults spark rise in exclusions at East Kilbride schools

The number of school pupils excluded for assaulting staff has increased by a third in just four years, according to Daily Record.

There were 13 exclusions for ‘physical incidents’ on teachers and staff at schools in 2017/18, compared to 10 in 2015/16. But in 2016/17 that number was 20.

The information was obtained by the News following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, with the details taking in both mainstream and additional support needs schools.

Linda Fabiani said a “safe and secure working environment” should be a prerequisite for teachers, adding that measures should always be taken to support staff and families.
