Prospect School makes a robust response to ITV documentary alleging cheating

Getreading is reporting that Prospect School in Tilehurst, which was the subject of a TV documentary last week in which the school was accused of cheating, has hit back at the allegations.

…In the documentary, three former Prospect School teachers were interviewed as well as three pupils all of whom confirmed the practice of repeating the same piece of work to improve the grade…

One student raised his grade through the process from a D to an A*…

Phil Davies, head of Prospect School said: “The events in the programme cover a period before I took over as headteacher. None of these allegations or the evidence that was presented are new, and contrary to what was alleged in the programme, all were investigated thoroughly by the exam board in the summer of 2013. The school cooperated fully with the investigation and was exonerated of the type of malpractice alleged in the programme.

“There is little to add to the statement made in 2013 by Paul Barker, chair of Governors:

‘Prospect School takes any allegations of (exam) malpractice extremely seriously. The school has been the subject of two separate investigations in one of our departments by the examining board. One investigation was instigated by an anonymous complaint and the other by me as Chair of Governors, in response to a letter I received. We have acted decisively and openly in both instances. We have cooperated fully with the exam board and their investigators. Following the two separate and thorough investigations, I can confirm that AQA is satisfied with the integrity of the school’s GCSE Science assessment results from the January 2013 exams and with the integrity of the GCSE Science exams in June 2013.’

Mr Davies went on: “The school has moved on since these events. The former employees interviewed in the ITV programme aired on August 12 have not been on the staff for some time now and as such, are unaware of the focus and development of the school over recent times…
