‘Panic’ amongst staff and students after school put in lockdown

The Liverpool Echo is reporting that parents and pupils of the local Fazerkerley High School were thrown into panic and confusion when the school was put into ‘lockdown’.

…The school closed its gates after taking a phone call where the caller made threats to damage the school .

But there was confusion and panic among pupils and parents who said they were not told what was happening.

One parent told the ECHO: “I don’t know what’s going on. My daughter rang me crying, screaming and panicking so I’ve come to pick her up. But I don’t know what’s happening.”

Another distressed parent said: “I want to know what’s happened this morning. I’ve come to pick my daughter up because she’s not well, but I can’t get hold of the school on the phone and they’re not opening the gate.”…

A 16-year-old girl said: “We only found out there was something happening when we tried to go to Tesco to get a snack and told we couldn’t leave.

“We were told the school was in lockdown but nobody told us why.

“The older students, the sixth formers, they were the ones panicking. The scary thing was not knowing what was going on…

Merseyside Police said they were trying to trace the caller…
