No new faith schools unless they tackle segregation – Commission

The Telegraph is reporting that an inquiry into integration has recommended no new faith schools should be allowed unless groups planning them can prove pupils will mix with children from other backgrounds in an effort to combat the threat of extremism and social division…

It urged ministers to impose stricter requirements on new religious schools – a strand of education which expanded significantly under the Blair government but was further boosted by the Coalition’s free school programme which allows parents and other groups to set up new schools.

Free schools, the centrepiece of the former Education Secretary Michael Gove’s reforms, have led to increasing numbers of children spending their formative years in surroundings “dominated by a single faith group or community”, the report warns.

@VictoriaJaquiss SchoolsImprove   In Catholic schools all pupils are treated equally….but not all religions.  I can’t vouch for secular or Muslim schools.  I don’t believe all pupils are treated equally in these schools.
