Nation is losing faith in universities due to their ‘sneering’ attitude to patriotism, grade inflation and fat cat pay, report warns

Daily Mail is reporting that university bosses fear the higher education system is out of touch with the nation, a report has said.

Research by the Policy Exchange think-tank, which interviewed 50 university officials for its report, suggests growing discontent among vice-chancellors and chairmen of university governing bodies towards the system’s inability to reform.

It urged universities to ‘restore confidence in the value of the honours degree … reversing the growth of grade inflation and unconditional offers’.

It also encouraged universities to ensure students with Tory views feel able to express them without fear.
