The Mirror is reporting that Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha says that pulling her children out of school in favour of home education is the best decision she has ever made.
In an exclusive chat ahead of Wednesday’s National Television Awards, the presenter reveals she has been home-schooling her youngsters for a year after they failed to thrive in formal mainstream education.
For Nadia and TV director husband Mark Adderley, home-educating their daughters Maddie, 13, and Kiki-Bee, eight, has completely surpassed all their expectations.
Nadia says: “Deciding to home-educate the girls is the best thing I’ve ever done.
“I never knew it existed. If I had, I would have done it years ago.
“It’s very hard work but I much prefer it to somebody else bringing up my children and giving them a pile of rules I don’t really agree with.
I don’t want my children tested every day and left feeling stupid if they haven’t achieved a particular mark. I don’t think that’s the way to learn…
Nadia says that initially sending her daughters to a fee-paying school in London, where places in good state schools can be hard to come by, seemed like the right decision.
“Mark and I said to each other that we’re going to work really, really hard and save our money so we can afford to send them there because we thought it’s the best thing we could do for them. But it was a big mistake and I’ve really regretted it…”
