Ministers urged to place police officers in schools after kids as young as TEN caught with knives in class

The Sun is reporting that ministers have been urged to place police officers in schools after it emerged kids as young as ten have been caught with knives.

Figures seen by the Sun reveal police forces have been called nearly 700 times in the past three years to confiscate blades, knuckledusters and even guns from schools

And there has been a near 50 per cent rise in incidents recorded by the police since 2014.

West Midlands Police and Derbyshire have both had to take knives from ten year-olds. Lancashire Police has confiscated a taser.

Lib Dem education spokesman Jon Pugh said the shocking figures should be a “wake up call” to the Government.

This news comes as The Mirror reported that police launched an unannounced search on hundreds of pupils in an effort to tackle knife crime – but were left “stunned” when they did not discover even one cigarette.
