Introduce selective free schools, MP says

We covered this book yesterday, but the Telegraph is reporting that an MP has written in it that new free schools and academies should be allowed to select on ability…

Graham Brady, a Conservative, believes the policy would “revolutionise educational opportunity” in the state sector…

The chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbenchers also calls for state pupils to be allowed to take up independent school places in The Ins and Outs of Selective Secondary Schools: A Debate.

“It is easy to see a future when a per capita funding formula would allow parents to use the sum of money available for the education of their child in any school of their choice, be it a free school, an academy or an independent school prepared to offer a place at the same cost,” Mr Brady writes.

His call for academic selection follows a promise this month from David Cameron of at least 500 new free schools if his party wins the next election…

I haven’t got a copy of the book but is this effectively a call for grammar free schools and academies from Graham Brady?
