After days of mounting anger, the Government was forced into a U-turn over the controversial grading system for this year’s A-levels and GCSEs. The Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said that the moderation system had resulted in “significant inconsistencies” which could not be addressed through appeals, and apologised for the “distress” caused.
