Gavin Williamson is tearing up the target of 50% of people going to university

The Government has said it is tearing up the target for 50 per cent of young people to go to university. The Education Secretary Gavin Williamson instead said he would stand for the “forgotten 50 per cent” who do not go by boosting further education and apprenticeships.

In a speech hosted by the Social Market Foundation think-tank, Mr Williamson said “too many people” in Britain did not value FE, which “may as well have stood for Forgotten Education”.
