From washing clothes to handing out food – how teachers are having to help homeless children

Earlier this year – before Covid-19 gripped the world – Shelter carried out research with 1,507 teachers to find out what impact homelessness and bad housing was having on children’s education. Our frontline services are at the sharp end of the housing emergency – but even we were shocked to learn that more than half (56 per cent) of state school teachers have worked with children who were homeless or became homeless in the last three years.
