More than 60 head teachers affiliated with the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC), an association of independent schools, have pledged to ask alumni, parents, staff and other contacts to give careers talks to pupils from state schools. iNews reports
The private school heads are throwing their weight behind ‘I Am #InspiringTheFuture’ – a national campaign which is being run by the charity Education and Employers.
The campaign aims to boost social mobility by recruiting an army of 100,000 professionals to go into state schools and deliver talk about jobs and the world of work.
In a speech in London today, the director of education and skills at the OECD, Andreas Schleicher, will say that children need “light bulb moments” where they meet an adult who inspires them about their future.
“You can’t be, what you can’t see,” Mr Schleicher will say.
