Coronavirus latest: Schools need extra funds to hire more cleaners for September, union says

Schools should get extra funding to hire more cleaners if they are to safely reopen in September, a teaching union has said. The NASUWT also called for schools to get rapid data about local infection rates and visits from health and safety inspectors to check they are Covid-secure.

In a letter sent to the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, Patrick Roach, the NASUWT’s general secretary, says: “We do not want to see any schools cutting corners on cleaning and hygiene.
