CBI: Ofsted should focus on pupils’ ‘holistic’ development

The TES is reporting that the CBI has suggested Ofsted inspections should place as much importance on students’ personal development as they do on exam results…

The business lobby organisation has called for greater focus on the “holistic” development of pupils and for schools and colleges to be given a separate grade for “personal development”.

In particular, the CBI wants greater focus on developing “determination, confidence and responsibility” among primary pupils.

The CBI was responding to Ofsted’s consultation on its plans to overhaul the inspection process…

The CBI says that “a framework that places more equal weight on this wider personal development, as well as on academic progress and attainment, is needed to make this a priority in all schools and colleges”. This focus, it adds, “resonates well with business”…

    SchoolsImprove Do the CBI mean that Ofsted should judge schools purely on exam results? A few beads of sweat on foreheads at Ofsted Towers

    SchoolsImprove interesting. Many kids stumble when you try to implement independent learning at 6th form, having been spoon-fed in school.

    irvingphil SchoolsImprove too much ‘scaffolding’ can be endemic in all schools eg SEN parents & school. We do need a little more risk.
